A stand-out on the Daylesford-Malmesbury Road in Glenlyon. Loads of character, great, friendly, country style service. But, the food is next level for this tiny out-of-the-way general store cafe. Most everything on the menu is sourced locally, as far as possible, with an extra something that makes the dishes special and will make you want to come back again. I had the very generous beef burger that comes on a toasted Turkish style roll baked in-house. This super juicy burger has to be eaten in two hands. Forget the knife and fork to truly enjoy the burger, and factor in some handwashing afterwards. Special burger full of flavour with house relish and mayo, beetroot, pickles and other good stuff. My wife had the blackboard special: pork and egg roll, also really generous two handed effort that was by all accounts also worth travelling for. We also had the sidewinder chips with aioli. Each of these chips is a sculptured gem, and a plate of these is a ‘must have!’ Desserts were the sticky date pudding, with both cream and ice—cream to ensure good food group balance; and, the pudding was doing freestyle in a rich pool of butterscotch sauce. Very nice. The cheesecake with the coulis was also very nice. See the photos. We sat out in the garden on a warm afternoon and it was idyllic with a couple of cold drinks to start proceedings. Try the blood orange gin lemon lime and bitters-a nice refreshing surprise. The store sells a range of specialty jams, relishes, chilli oil and the like along with local produce. Many things that we’ve not seen elsewhere. The owner and staff were friendly, really nice and clearly love what they have created here. Wish I had a few more stars to give in the country cafe category. Highly recommended and worth a stop-better still, to go out of your way for. Thanks.

This was a welcome find. Brought over to this establishment by the people we were visiting with nothing more than the restrained statement “It’s nice” to go on. Nice indeed. A beautiful little shop with enough amazing things inside it will make you want to take out a loan to buy them all. The inside dining area makes you feel like you stepped into a completely separate establishment. It is beautifully decorated and sectioned which allows for a more intimate feel. The outside seating feels like you’re again in another place all together. Like sitting in someone’s back garden, under the dappled shade, in the serenade of the birds. The food was lovely. The portion sizes are healthy. The staff were friendly and even offer advice on your order if they feel you may have ordered too much.

What a little gem! Not your typical ‘general store’ walked inside and was shocked to see the most beautiful little store, selling delicious products. Decided to come back for breakfast the next day and it just got better. Food was delicious, back garden was stunning and the service was impeccable with orders taken with a smile and great positive energy. Highly recommend for brunch and coffee was elite!

What a fantastic recommendation from locals to visit for breakfast, it was so good we came back for breakfast again the next day. The coffee and breakfast were delicious especially the toasted sandwich I have never had one as good as it, the cheese was incredible, my partner said the same about his bacon and eggs. The General Store is full of local produce, cheeses, wines, honey and the most delicious looking cakes. Highly recommended

Glenlyon General Store is a true gem! The food is always fresh and delicious, and their hot chocolate is hands down the best I’ve ever had. The staff are warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere captures everything you’d hope for in a country café – cosy, friendly, and full of charm. Easily one of the best spots to stop, relax, and enjoy a great meal or drink in the country.

Easter Bliss! This charming local gem feels like a love letter to country hospitality—laid-back, beautifully rustic, and packed with flavour. We popped in for brunch on a crisp morning and were greeted with the comforting scent of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods wafting through the air. The menu hits that perfect sweet spot between hearty and refined. Think locally-sourced ingredients, creative twists on classics, and generous portions. Highly recommend the Salmon Rosti, Breakfast Bruschetta and Salmon Gravlax special.
